BIOGRAFIA
ARTIST STATEMENT

Pierluigi Slis looks at contemporary art from the right distance.
He forgets names and currents but retains the image of the works he meets.
While living in balance between two systems knows which his place in the world: at the foot of a dark green mountain, in a laboratory with a high ceiling, next to those who know him.
There, cultivates thoughts and develops mysterious installations, which re-establish, within his research, an ideal order.

Critical text:

In these paintings the action of Slis has been even violent and self-destructive: though belonging to three different series, Kisses, the Armor and Terre Fragili, these works are all based on the use of earlier paintings, cutted and recomposed. Dozens and dozens of pictures made, literally, to pieces and reassembled, now to form a geometric patchwork, as in Kisses and Armor, now to shape the profile of a mountain – the harsh profiles of Veneto’s foothills where Slis lives – that precipitate in absolute vacuum, disorienting, of the canvas left unfinished. As if to say that even the stone crumbles and turns, that the building, we would like to secure stable, of what we are and we have achieved – the “mountains and mountains of paint”, are the words of Pierluigi, will be constantly destroyed and rebuilt.
